Halloween Scaries

The year is showing its age as darkness and cold encroach upon our mild Providence fall days. The temptation is strong to stay inside—but that’s too easy. Out there in the eerie blackness and wintry chill, nefarious characters emerge and rule the night. These are songs of cool, calculated terror for prowling the haunted streets of Providence through these pre-Halloween nights.

“Red Right Hand” - Nick Cave

“Goin’ out West” - Tom Waits

“Electricity” - Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band

“Güero Canelo” - Calexico

“Mansion” - The Fall
“So Get Out” - The Shelters

“Venus in Furs” - The Velvet Underground & Nico

“God’s Gonna Cut You Down” - Johnny Cash

“Master Song” - Leonard Cohen

“Hurdy Gurdy Man” - Donovan

kinda international student

Being an international student means that everything you took for granted back home becomes painfully clear. I’m Canadian, so one of those things for me is Canadian music—especially Canadian rock. Here’s a taste of my favourite Canadian rock, starting with a few classics and then moving into more contemporary alternative and indie rock.
